Even the person who mentions Kaal Sarp Dosha in your horoscope probably doesn't know what it is, because there's no mention of it in the scriptures. The Vedas, Upavedas, Puranas, Shastras, Mahashiva Purana, or any other Purana mention Kaal Sarp Dosha. Some scholars attribute it to a defect caused by the planet Rahu, or Rahu Dosha.
Rahu's original name was Swarbhanu, a demon. According to the scriptures, during the churning of the ocean, Swarbhanu assumed the form of a god and sat among the gods, seeking to drink the nectar. As soon as Lord Vishnu's Mohini form offered Swarbhanu (Rahu) the nectar, the Sun and Moon signaled that he (Swarbhanu) was not a god but a demon. Lord Vishnu then severed Swarbhanu's (Rahu's) head from his torso. Since then, the head portion has been known as Rahu, and the lower portion has been known as Ketu. Both these parts were revived by a serpent. The rear portion of the snake was added to the torso (Rahu), and the head portion of the snake was added to Ketu. Thus, Swarbhanu was divided into two parts: Rahu and Ketu.
Swarbhanu's primary deity is the god of time, whose blessings allowed Swarbhanu to escape death. Thus, Rahu and Ketu are considered inauspicious and cruel planets. Because Swarbhanu drank nectar, they were given a place among the Navagraha and were given the right to be worshipped along with all the other planets.
Thus, according to the scriptures, Rahu Shanti is also mentioned. Whenever any of the nine planets is pacified, it is necessary to worship the Adi and Pratyadi deities of that planet. Similarly, whenever Rahu is pacified, Rahu's Adi deities are the gods of time, and the Pratyadi deity is the god of snakes. Therefore, whenever Rahu is pacified, the Adi deity is the god of time, and the Pratyadi deity is the god of snakes. Therefore, whenever Rahu is pacified, the worship of Kaal and the snake is also performed along with them. Thus, it is called Rahu Kaal Sarp Puja or Rahu Kaal Sarp Shanti.
With the change in time, people started calling Rahu Kaal Sarp Shanti as Kaal Sarp Shanti or Kaal Sarp Dosh Shanti. Always keep in mind that whenever Rahu Kaal Sarp Shanti is performed, there is no worship of planet Ketu. Therefore, along with this worship, at least 18000 chants of Rahu and at least 17000 chants of Ketu should be done.
There are a total of 12 houses in the horoscope, out of which Rahu and Ketu are always face-to-face in any two houses. People have adopted their own method of checking Kaal Sarp, according to which if Rahu is at one corner and Ketu is at the other corner and all the remaining planets are in any house between these two planets, then it is called Kaal Sarp Dosh. In astrological terms, this is called the inauspicious Kartari Dosha. However, this is not entirely correct, because even if a planet is free from the influence of Rahu and Ketu but is itself afflicted (such as Mangal Dosha—Mars in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth, or twelfth house), is in a debilitated state (such as Jupiter in Capricorn), or is under the influence of inauspicious planets, it is still called Kaalsarp Dosha. This disproves the theory that Kaalsarp Dosha exists only when all planets are between Rahu and Ketu.
There is no mention of the types of Kaalsarp in the scriptures. There are only nine types of snakes described in the entire universe, namely Anant, Vasuki, Shesh, Padmanabh, Kambalam, Shankhpal, Dhritarashtra, Takshak, and Kaliya. From these, the following 12 types of Kaal Sarp Dosha are derived based on the 12 houses of the horoscope: Anant Kaal Sarp Dosha, Kulik Kaal Sarp Dosha, Vasuki Kaal Sarp Dosha, Shankhpal Kaal Sarp Dosha, Padma Kaal Sarp Dosha, Mahapadma Kaal Sarp Dosha, Takshak Kaal Sarp Dosha, Karkotak Kaal Sarp Dosha, Shankhchud Kaal Sarp Dosha, Ghatak Kaal Sarp Dosha, Vishdhar Kaal Sarp Dosha, and Sheshnag Kaal Sarp Dosha.
Thus, a total of 12 types of Kaalsarp Dosha are in special discussion these days. Astrologers predict the success and troubles associated with the house in which Rahu and Ketu are placed. However, the process of pacifying all the 12 Kalsarp Dosh is not different but is the same. In any type of Kalsarp Dosh, there is no pronunciation or special process of that type of Kalsarp during the puja.
The 12 houses of the horoscope represent various aspects of human life. Rahu and Ketu associated with any of these houses increase or decrease happiness and sorrow in the life of the person associated with that house.
The first instance of Kaalsarp Dosha on Earth occurred in the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga area, which was earlier known as Rahu Shanti, and its immediate results were obtained. Therefore, Trimbakeshwar is considered to be the birthplace of the Kaalsarp Dosha Nivaran Puja. Whenever there is Kaalsarp Dosha in the horoscope or Rahu is causing difficulties in life, good astrologers always advise visiting Trimbakeshwar. Trimbakeshwar is said to be the place of liberation from Kaalsarp Dosha or Rahu, and Vardani Pandit Ji Trimbakeshwar has said that if you keep wandering, you will find liberation here. This method of Trimbakeshwar first came to Ujjain, where some Brahmins learned the method from Trimbakeshwar and started performing the rituals in Ujjain. With the passage of time, this worship started being performed in Ujjain as well. To encourage people to worship at Ujjain as an alternative to Trimbakeshwar, some ghat priests started the ritual of immersing snakes in water to spice it up, knowing that people would associate the snake (Naag) with Kalsarpa and this ritual would become popular. However, the practice of immersing snakes in water is not mentioned in any scriptures or in the Trimbakeshwar area.
If you want to worship for Kalsarpa Dosha in Ujjain as an alternative, you should first understand a few things:
According to the scriptures, every human being should pacify the inauspicious planets. Of these, Rahu-Ketu, Mangal Dosha, and Saturn are not required for peace. Whether there is a dosha in the horoscope or not, everyone should worship them, but it should always be kept in mind that worshipping Kundali Dosha at home or around the house should be avoided; instead, it should be done at a prominent place, otherwise the horoscope may get spoiled, and the doshas can also become serious. Whether there is Kaalsarp Dosha and Mangal Dosha in the horoscope or not, worshipping them gives the best results.
If your horoscope contains any kind of astrological affliction (Dosha), and you are traveling to Ujjain, Trimbakeshwar, Gaya, Prayagraj, Banaras, Haridwar, Brahmakapal, or any other sacred site to perform rituals, you should, at the very least, ensure—prior to the ceremony—that your worship is conducted exclusively by a *Vardani Pandit Ji*. Do you know who *Vardani Pandit Ji* is? You will find the answer below.
Whenever there is Mangal Dosha in the horoscope or there is an obstacle in the marriage of a child, every astrologer advises that you should go to Ujjain to perform Mangal Dosha Nivaran Puja, whose main place on the entire earth is Shri Angareshwar Temple in Ujjain.
Book NowAccording to the scriptures, it is believed that every person should chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra at least once in his life, and for this, 12 Jyotirlingas have been mentioned, but it is very difficult to chant this in any of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples, hence it is advised to do it in Mahakal Ujjain.
Book NowUjjain offers the same results as Gaya for the peace of ancestors. It is at Ramghat that Lord Rama offered Pind Daan for his father. Another area is Shri Siddhavat, where Goddess Parvati planted the Banyan tree with her own hands. By offering Pind Daan here, ancestors attain salvation.
